One of five classic varietal wines from Sumarroca, made for more than 25 years from the vineyards on the Sabartés plot, in the maritime area of Penedès.
The Sabartés estate is at the southernmost part of the denomination of origin, and lies practically at sea level. The land is loose clay with little organic material. The climate is very mild and clearly contained by the influence of the sea’s proximity and wines' profiles are directly marked by the sea winds which give them a Mediterranean character. The Riesling vines were planted in 1985.
The 2013 vintage began with heavy rains in October but there was virtually no rainfall for the rest of the winter and temperatures were very mild. Towards the end of February and March the temperatures dropped, which delayed bud-break a little. The weather became much hotter in April, however, although at the end of the month rainy weather set in, bringing temperatures in May down to levels more typical of February. Temperatures remained low in June, and it was July before the hot, dry weather arrived. The weather in August and September, as the grapes ripened, was cool, especially at night. Harvesting began a week later than usual, with significant gaps between the dates on which each variety was collected.
Yellow colour with greenish reflections. Complex, elegant aromas of apricots and pears combined with reductive notes of undergrowth and tar. Fresh and slightly acid on the palate, with hints of pears and a mineral touch.
Short prefermentive maceration at 10ºC for 4 hours to draw out the variety’s full complexity. Gentle pressing and static filtration for 24 hours. Fermentation at 14ºC for 16 days. Cold is applied to stop the fermentation and to leave a little sugar to balance the wine’s more acidic side.
Alcohol: 11,00% vol.
Residual sugar: 5,6 g/l
Total acidity: 4,30 g/l
