This is a very special cava named after the wife of Carles Sumarroca, the winery’s founder. The bottle carries a dedication from her three sons: “This is a tribute to our mother whose love for the land has lasted all her life”. The cava comes from a specially selected plot of high quality Xarel·lo vines with a distinctive personality. The design of the bottle, inspired by ancient Greek amphorae, was awarded a prize by Sumarroca and ADIFAD in 2004.
The wine is grown in the Peretes plot, located in the Santa Creu sector of the Sumarroca estate. This is a gravelly piece of land where fossils can be found both on the surface and deep in the soil, giving the grapes their unique character. Planted over 50 years ago, the Xarel·lo vines there have absorbed the essence of the land.
2009 began with a cold, very wet winter, getting the vines off to a good start. Spring, however, was a little drier than usual, with temperatures close to the average. The summer was very dry and hot, allowing the Pinot Noir to ripen well. After the heatwave at the end of August, the grapes were able to ripen slowly.
Unique, intense aroma with strong mineral and toasted notes from the grape resulting in a highly individual character. Extremely full-flavoured with bubbles that dissolve and mix with the cava to give it the right level of complexity; from a highly fruity start to an intriguing fresh and minerally finish.
The grapes are harvested by hand and transported quickly to the winery for a gentle pressing without destemming. Only the first part of the must is extracted, after cooling to 10ºC to prevent oxidation. Natural, static filtration for 24 hours. Fermentation in stainless steel vats at 14ºC for 17 days. Aged in stacks for around 45 months.
