Personal selection by Manuel Raventós of the best wines of the vintage.
The farm's soils are calcareous and date back to the oldest Penedès depression 16 million years ago. First horizon roots up to one meter living in the clays with nutrients and organic matter and water. Second horizon from one meter. There the plant is the galley. Limestone mother rock, inlaid with marine fossils.
The large number of marine fossils that characterize the structure and composition of the soils contribute to the wines of our farm the main source of saline typicity and minerality.
Xarel.lo del Clos, north facing, the parcel.la with the freshest and wettest meso climate of the farm that causes us very slow maturing giving us structured wines with very good natural acidity. Parellada de La Creueta, the sandy soil gives us concentrated wines. Macabeo de La Plana, freshness and minerality in our lowest parcel.
Biodynamic viticulture. Vineyard with spontaneous plant coverings, which give biodiversity, fertility and life in the soil. We bring manure from our animals, composted in winter. We make short pruning on "vas".
Use of plant infusions as phytotherapy to minimize the use of copper and sulfur. Control of Lobesia botrana due to sexual confusion. Control of berries and ripening controls before harvest. Manual harvest.
Gravity entry in the cellar. In each stage, atmosphere controlled with dry ice. Slow pressing at low pressures with fragmentation of musts by tasting. Static dewet at low temperatures. First fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. Assembly, second fermentation in bottle and minimum aging of 72 months in position of rhyme. We do not add expedition liquor. Disgorgement date indicated on the back label. 2,212 bottles
70% Xarel.lo harvested on September 16. On "vas" in 1954. 20% Parellada harvested on September 2. On "vas" in 1973. 10% Macabeo harvested on September 25. On "vas" in 1997.
A fresh and extreme year, with a snowfall on March 9, we will not forget. The season started with a very rainy October and a little cold autumn that allowed us to keep the leaves for a long time. In this way, the vineyard was able to load its reserves well. The winter was long and cold. We started pruning on December 10th. The spring was cool and rainy and, until August, the heat did not come. On August 12, 30 L of rain fell that helped complete the soil water reserve. We started the harvest on August 18 and, fortunately, we have a month without rain to be able to enter practically all the grapes of the farm until on September 17, 58 L fell that accelerated the entrance of the Parellada.
During the agricultural year (October 2009 to October 2010) we collected 700 L of water towards the 526 L of average of the last ten years and the average temperature was of 14.4 ºC, against the 15.3 ºC of the last ten years. Add excellent with great potential for aging.
